The college football season had no shortage of storylines last weekend, with the Colorado Buffaloes pulling off an incredible Hail Mary-fueled overtime win, the Illinois Fighting Illini going on the road to beat the undefeated Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Michigan Wolverines fending off a late rally by the USC Trojans. In the SEC, the top-ranked Missouri Tigers survived a scare from the Vanderbilt Commodores, while the Tennesee Volunteers went into Norman and beat the Oklahoma Sooners. Another notable SEC tilt came when the Arkansas Razorbacks visited the Auburn Tigers.

Arkansas spoiled Auburn quarterback Hank Brown’s second career college football start, forcing three interceptions before Tigers headman Hugh Freeze turned to former starter Payton Thorne. The senior faired better but threw an interception in the 24-14 loss. Following the game, Freeze hit the radio waves, claiming the loss hit worse because “they win that matchup nine out of the next nine times.” Naturally, Arkansas did not take kindly to his remarks, clapping back at the leadman via social media on Tuesday.

According to college football insider Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports:

I love Sam Pittman, and I hope he wins the rest of his games, but I’m telling you the hard truth is that we play [Arkansas] nine more times, and we’d beat them nine times. And that’s what’s hard to take.

Many college football fans, including those loyal to the Arkansas Razorbacks, clowned Freeze for his comments suggesting the Auburn Tigers were the far superior team. On Tuesday, Arkansas football’s Twitter account fired back at Hugh Freeze, posting an endzone view of Razorbacks defensive back Jayden Johnson’s interception of a pass from Auburn’s Payton Thorne, titled, “That’s a pick nine times out of nine for @jj4x_.”

Arkansas will head into next weekend’s road clash with the Texas A&M Aggies with a 3-1 record. Meanwhile, Auburn is now 2-2 on the season and will host an Oklahoma team struggling with an offensive identity crisis. Auburn’s two quarterbacks, Thorne and Hank Brown, have tossed a combined 13 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
