LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – On Saturday night, Trinity defeated Bryan Station 41–20 to capture the KHSAA State Championship for the 28th time.

First-quarter touchdowns from Kalen Washington on the ground put the Defenders ahead. With 8:51 remaining in the first half, Clint Sansbury ran one yard for Trinity’s first touchdown.

After a mishandled punt, the Shamrocks were awarded a shot field, but they were only able to reduce the lead to one point with a field goal.

Following Trenton Cutwright of Bryan Station was intercepted by Dane Morrow to set up Trinity’s game-winning drive in the second quarter.

As the rain began to fall at Kroger Field, Zane Johnson connected with Jeremiah Lynn for a 42-yard gain, which set up Sansbury’s second one-yard touchdown run to put the Shamrocks ahead 20-14. The teams then separated for the half.

It was all Trinity after that.

Trinity defeats Bryan Station by double digits to close off the season the same way it started. Following a 36-3 victory over the Defenders to start the season, the Shamrocks lost three of their next four games before pulling through to finish with a 12-3 record. The Defenders started the season with two losses, but they rebounded with a five-game winning run in the middle and a six-game winning streak going into Saturday’s state championship game.
