Breaking: Former Geelong midfield player joins a VFL team

For 2024, the youthful ex-Cat has located a new residence.

Flynn Kroeger, a former Geelong midfielder, has committed to Port Melbourne for the 2024 VFL season in anticipation of a better play time.

After two injury-plagued seasons at Kardinia Park, Kroeger left the Cats. Despite being selected 48th overall in the 2021 National Draft, the 20-year-old was unable to make it into Geelong’s senior team.

Over the previous two seasons, the Wandin native has only played in three VFL games in the hoops. He made his VFL debut in Round 9 of the previous year, but he was still sidelined by persistent knee problems.

Before being delisted by the Cats, Kroeger would only play in two state league games this season. In Geelong’s season-ending match against GWS, he recorded 18 possessions, six touchdowns, and one assist.

The Eastern Ranges product will now make the move to Port Melbourne following his Geelong exit, with the Borough announcing the signing of Kroeger on Tuesday afternoon.

The midfield-defender utility is the latest ex-AFL talent to sign with Port Melbourne, joining delisted Western Bulldogs midfielder Robbie McComb and former Fremantle backman Tobe Watson.

“Flynn Kroeger was drafted to Geelong Cats after playing u/18’s at the Eastern Ranges.”

This year, Port Melbourne finished in fifteenth place on the VFL ladder with six victories from eighteen games.

Sam Naismith, a former Sydney tall who had a great season in the blue and red under coach Adam Skrobalak, has said goodbye to the Borough this off-season. He will now play in the AFL with Richmond.
