News Flash: Benjamin Mendy sues Manchester City because of unpaid salaries,

Sports attorney Nick De Marco KC reports that Benjamin Mendy has filed a “multi-million-pound” compensation claim against his previous team, Manchester City, for unpaid salaries.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on one count of rape and one count of attempted rape, but after a six-month trial, the 29-year-old was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against five women in January. A new jury at Chester Crown Court in July cleared Mendy of those charges, allowing the Frenchman to resume his football career.

Following his initial suspension by Man City in 2021 following his rape and sexual assault charges, Mendy was formally discharged by the team at the end of June, coinciding with the expiration of his contract.

Since then, Nick De Marco KC has told Sky Sports News that Mendy has launched an Employment Tribunal suit against Man City regarding unpaid wages.

The French player, who currently plays for Ligue 1 team Lorient, has been requesting his money back from the Citizens until the end of his contract, which expires on June 30, 2023.

“Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados, Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages,” said a statement.

“After Mr. Mendy was accused with multiple offenses, all of which he was later found not guilty of, Manchester City FC refused to pay him any salaries whatsoever from September 2021 until the conclusion of his contract in June 2023. A tribunal for employment will hear the matter.”

In the summer of 2017, Mendy became the most expensive defender in the Premier League when he transferred from Monaco to Man City for an estimated £52 million.

endy won six trophies with Man City, lifting three Premier League titles, two EFL Cups and one Community Shield, while he also won the 2018 World Cup with France during his time as a Citizens player.

Mendy has made three substitute appearances for his new team, Lorient, this season. He has a contract with them through the summer of 2025.
