Nov. 23, NFL highlights: 49ers cook Thanksgiving supper for the Seahawks

At Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 31–13 while treating themselves to a scrumptious Thanksgiving turkey leg.

Quarterback (QB) Brock Purdy of the 49ers completed 21 of 30 throws for 209 yards and one touchdown along with one pick. Three of the receivers who connected with him had catches of more than twenty yards, even if none of them went over 100 yards. Four times was Brandon Aiyuk targeted, two of which he caught for fifty yards, and in the fourth quarter he scored the game-winning touchdown.

Both passing and rushing were covered by the 49ers’ extensive arsenal. They had a 169-88 advantage over the opposition in running yards. Christian McCaffrey, a running back, gained 114 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. He scored at least one run of more than ten yards, as did wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Elijah Mitchell. On the opening drive of the game, Samuel scored the first touchdown for the squad.

Despite having one of the loudest home stadiums in the NFL, the Seahawks disappointed their supporters on Thursday night. Similar to the 49ers, the club scored on their opening drive as well. Jason Myers made a 51-yard field goal, while kick returner Dee Eskridge returned the ball 66 yards for the second-most important play of the drive.

In contrast, Geno Smith, the quarterback for the Seahawks, had a disastrous first half in terms of offense. In the first two quarters, he had six drives, of which three resulted in punts and two in yards lost. In one drive, he nearly gave up a safety after tripping over his teammate’s ankle. The interception he threw in the first quarter didn’t appear all that bad in comparison to these awful plays.

Naturally, Smith shouldn’t bear the entire blame because a number of his teammates also had subpar performances. Smith was sacked six times by the Seahawks’ offensive line, costing the team 48 yards. With fewer than two minutes remaining in the second quarter, running back DeeJay Dallas fumbled while attempting to collect a punt. This allowed the 49ers to retake the other team’s 22-yard line. Jake Moody’s 32-yard field goal gave them a 21-point lead (24–3) after they barely advanced eight yards.

With their victory on Thursday, the 49ers maintained their lead in the National Football Conference (NFC) West with an 8-3 record. With this decision, the Seahawks (6-5) held onto their second-place ranking. They shouldn’t expect to overtake the 49ers, but they also shouldn’t be concerned about the Los Angeles Rams (4-6) coming up from behind. The Seahawks would be better served contending for a wild card berth.
