LeBron James Speaks: Following the Lakers’ 44-point loss to the 76ers, “a lot” needs to change.

Since several important rotation players—Jared Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura, and Cam Reddish—have been sidelined, it’s tough to evaluate, but occasionally there hasn’t been enough competitive spirit.

PHILADELPHIA — LeBron James and the Lakers were a part of another piece of history on the night he became the NBA’s all-time combined minutes leader for the regular season and playoffs—a history they would have preferred not to make.

In addition to being tied for the fifth-worst loss in franchise history, the Lakers’ 138-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday also had the lowest margin of defeat in James’ 21-season NBA career.

After the setback, the Lakers’ record slipped to 10-8 overall and 3-6 away from home heading into their game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. The team will then play the Oklahoma City Thunder the following night.

“What has to happen differently for that to not happen again?” James rephrased a query posed by a reporter. “Well, quite a bit.”

James said, “No,” in response to the question of whether the Lakers should concentrate on any specific areas. Many times.

The 76ers made a season-best 22 3-pointers on 46 attempts (47.8%), while the Lakers were just 7 for 25 from behind the arc.

Anthony Davis, anticipating a thorough film session on Tuesday, acknowledged it’s challenging to make an assessment since several key rotation players – Jared Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura and Cam Reddish – have been sidelined.

Reddish was listed as probable on the team’s injury report for the game against the Pistons after missing the previous three because of a strained left groin.

As a team, it can be challenging to define who we are, what we want to be, and what we are capable of, according to Davis. We are aware of our strength as a team. It seems like just as you get into a groove, one of us stumbles and it becomes difficult to continue with the rotations, figure out who we are, and other things. Without having a full team in place, it is difficult to determine what needs to improve or what needs to change.

Asked what could have been done better versus the 76ers, coach Darvin Ham cited a culture of competition. That’s something that won’t go down, even with the injuries.

There’s a chance for us to discuss it, according to Davis. And have a peek at it. It is what we are unable to have. However, you must flush it soon because we have another one on Wednesday, is I correct? We have to stop harping on it. Viewing the movie and identifying areas for improvement on both fronts is beneficial. We must examine, accept, and take ownership of it. Guys move on from things in the movie without taking anything said in it personally.

That may be easier said than done, particularly if athletes take film session criticisms too personally.

“I am aware that we have challenged one another during the game,” Davis remarked. “We’ve been calling people out when they’re not performing well or, shall I say, when they’re kind of lying. Furthermore, I doubt that anyone took it personally.

“But obviously, you have to put everything out of your mind and just go play throughout the game. It can be a little different when you’re sitting there watching a movie and don’t have to go somewhere. It’s also in front of the coaching staff and the entire team. Thus, I’m not sure. We don’t have any guys, in my opinion, who would take it personally. But that’s probably a topic for another discussion if they do.

James, who spent the most of his postgame media session talking about his team’s response to a historic loss such as the one the Lakers experienced, spoke briefly when asked how a team should respond.

He remarked, “I don’t know how a team [should].” “I am only able to speak for myself. It doesn’t appeal to me.
