What a Signing: The Detroit Red Wings officially signs their key target.

The Red Wings formally announced it. Former Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane has joined them.

On June 1, Kane, 35, had hip resurfacing surgery, and he was given a four- to six-month recovery period. It was anticipated of him to decide around Thanksgiving in the United States, and he has done so.

Alex DeBrincat, a longtime friend and former linemate of Kane’s who was dealt to Detroit from Ottawa during the winter, is back together. They’ll attempt to duplicate the magic they had in Chicago together with the Red Wings.

On Thursday night, the Chicago Blackhawks go to Detroit, although it’s unknown if Kane will start the game at the front of the lineup. On February 25, the two teams square off in Chicago on Chris Chelios’ jersey retirement night.
