Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, celebrated a score on the field with a videographer whose credentials were suspended by the NFL. In return, Hill promised to cover the videographer’s salary.
The incident happened during the Dolphins’ victory over the Carolina Panthers on October 15. Hill took a backflip selfie using a camera he took from Kevin Fitzgibbons, a University of Miami student, after he scored a touchdown.
Fitzgibbons revealed he was friends with Hill in a post on X, the previous Twitter, calling Hill “one of my best friends.” After winning the touchdown, Fitzgibbons claimed that Hill saw him standing in the sidelines and “surprised me by grabbing my phone and doing a backflip.”
In his video, the kid claimed, “It was the coolest moment ever, and I ran into the tunnel to send the clip to the NFL.” According to Fitzgibbons, he started working for the NFL in 2022 at Dolphins home games.
The NFL claimed that although the team was given a 15-yard penalty, Hill was not punished for the incident.
Fitzgibbons claimed the league told him he needed to be reprimanded and that he shouldn’t have jumped on the sidelines, regardless of whether he anticipated Hill’s celebration.
Fitzgibbons remarked in the video, “One of the best moments of my life turned upside down in a matter of seconds.” “I understand why the NFL had to make this choice, and while I wish I could have done something to stop it, I am grateful for Tyreek’s memory.” Since I had the best job ever, I never took a day for granted.
Fitzgibbons could not be reached by CNN for any comments. With over 36 million views, his piece has gained the endorsements of Hill, DraftKings, a sports betting service, and Lebron James.
Hill said on Thursday that he met with Fitzgibbons over the suspension of his credentials and that they had a lengthy history together.
“I told him not to let this affect you,” he remarked. Simply raise your head. You’re still quite young. Keep doing the things you love. We are going to keep working together, him and I. I assured him that I would pay his salary, regardless of what the NFL would pay him. I assured him that I would make sure to follow moral principles, look out for you, and ensure that you had a job. I like that man.
Fitzgibbons’ credentials were “temporarily suspended due to multiple violations of NFL policy,” according to an NFL source.
The informant mentioned Fitzgibbons is still under contract, but he’s free to take part in any number of additional initiatives, including player-led enterprises and league activities off the field.
With Hill scoring ten touchdowns, the Dolphins are 8-3 on the season and now hold the top spot in the AFC East.
