According to Max Verstappen, his three favorite triumphs of the 2023 season were in Miami, Zandvoort, and Suzuka.
With 19 victories from 22 races, the Red Bull driver—driving one of the most damaging Formula One vehicles ever—sailed to his third consecutive world championship.
After a campaign that broke records, the 26-year-old has now disclosed which races are particularly important to him
After winning the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, he commented, “I think the comeback race in Miami was great, that was an important one.”
“After the difficult weekend we had in Singapore, I think winning at Suzuka and at home at Zandvoort was very nice.”
In Miami, Verstappen started tenth on the grid, but he battled back to pass teammate Sergio Perez to won his second straight race in Florida.
The Dutchman triumphed in his native country despite a late crash that raised a red flag, and his victory in Japan came after a poor performance in Singapore, the one race that Red Bull lost all of
Verstappen went on to say that even though he won the championship in October in Qatar, he is still driven to succeed every week.
“I think driving is the most important thing to be here, first and foremost,” he declared.
Naturally, the knowledge that I have a good chance of winning at the majority of the races this year provides me with drive.
“I believe it’s more difficult when you’ve been there and eventually reach a point where it’s no longer feasible. At that point, it becomes more difficult to stay motivated. You should make an effort to investigate several options for maintaining your motivation.
“However, currently, being at the top of the pack, I believe it’s probably easier than when you’re in the middle of the pack.” The Bahrain Grand Prix is the opening race of the 2024 Formula One season, which takes place on March 2.
