Best News At The Moment, Famous CB Agrees To Join 49ers Practice Squad

After suffering a significant injury, the San Francisco 49ers strengthened their secondary by adding a well-known player to their practice squad.

In the Week 14 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, starting cornerback Charvarius Ward suffered a groin injury that he never fully recovered from.

The 49ers added veteran cornerback Jason Verrett to the practice squad as a possible substitute for Ward, whose availability for Week 15 is uncertain.

Verrett was a member of the 49ers for four seasons, from 2019 to 2022, although he was nearly always sidelined by significant ailments.

Due to ankle injuries, he missed all but one game in 2019, one game due to an ACL tear in 2021, and the entire 2022 season due to an Achilles tear.

Verrett was released from the Houston Texans practice squad in November after signing with them in October.

With the 49ers, he will now have the opportunity to revitalize his career.

In 2020, Verrett recorded 60 total tackles, seven interceptions, and seven passes defended in the one and only season he appeared in multiple games for San Francisco.

Between 2014 and 2017, he was a member of the Los Angeles Chargers for four seasons, during which he recorded five interceptions, 19 passes defended, and 80 total tackles.

ACL tears in 2016, a second knee injury in 2017, a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2018, and a torn rotator cuff in 2014 were among the injuries Verrett sustained while playing for the Chargers.

In his post, Jordan Schultz of Bleacher post mentioned how well-liked Verrett is in San Francisco and within the coaching staff.

His experience could be beneficial for the young 49ers secondary.

The only other cornerbacks in San Francisco with more than three years of experience are Ward and third-stringer Isaiah Oliver.

In order to maintain their position as the top NFC seed, the 49ers require as much assistance as they can get.
