The Wolverines’ chances of landing one of their top targets through the transfer portal are increasing.

Joey Slackman, a defensive tackle for Penn, was rumored to have canceled his planned official visit to Michigan earlier on Wednesday. It now seems like Slackman has set sail for Michigan.

However, not long after that was revealed, national writer Chris Hummer of 247Sports sent Michigan a Crystal Ball prediction, saying the Wolverines will recruit transfer from Western Kentucky, Upton Stout.

Stout is 247Sports’ fourth-best cornerback and the portal’s 39th-ranked player.

The 185-pound, 5-foot-9 cornerback started his playing career at North Texas in 2020–2021. After that, he moved to Western Kentucky, where he made an immediate impression on the team.

In ’22, he led the team with four interceptions and was seventh on the squad with 44 tackles. Despite playing in just seven games this season, Stout managed 29 tackles and one interception.

In college, Stout shown his ability to play the safety position. However, Stout is considered a potential Mike Sainristil successor at the nickel due to his stature and skill.

Stout has previously visited Ann Arbor, and based on reports, the Wolverines’ visit went really well. On3 estimates that Michigan has a 48.1% chance of landing Stout.

Another program that is vying for Stout’s attention is USC.

Additionally, Michigan is predicted by Crystal Ball to sign Maryland linebacker Jaishawn Barham.
