Does He Deserve Such Manner Of Departure? 6-foot-4, ACC Wide Receiver Offered By Michigan Football Through Transfer Portal

The Wolverines are looking to add some receiving depth through the transfer portal.

Through the transfer channel, Michigan football is hoping to add some large-framed wide receivers. Donavan McCulley, an Indiana transfer, was previously extended an offer by the Wolverines, but it appears that he may return home and cancel his registration on the transfer portal.

The Wolverines, however, won’t give up there. Michigan made Wake Forest transfer Jahmal Banks an offer on Friday.

Banks attended Wake Forest in the cycle of 2020. He is a native of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, where 247Sports reports he was a three-star prospect.

Banks was a bit player in the first two seasons of 2020 and 2021, but in 2022 and 2023 he settled into a regular role for the Deacons. In Wake Forest’s last two seasons, Banks caught 101 catches for 1,289 yards and 13 touchdowns, ranking him as the team’s top wide receiver.

Banks is 6-foot-4 and weighs 205 pounds, which is the standard outside size for a man. He’s got the vertical leap ball ability that Michigan hasn’t had since Nico Collins.

Cornelius Johnson and probably Roman Wilson will also be leaving Michigan. Clearly, the Wolverines want to add some larger players to the mix and retool their receiving corps.

Banks has been to Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Since he started using the transfer site, he has communicated with Purdue, West Virginia, and Minnesota, among other schools. According to 247Sports, Banks is the No. 15 wide receiver and the 61st-ranked player in the nation.
