According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Amani Hooker, a safety for the Tennessee Titans, was fined $21,855 by the NFL and Roger Goodell for needless roughness after Hooker’s hit on Miami Dolphins wideout Jaylen Waddle during last week’s game.

Saturday’s fine is Hooker’s second of the 2023 season. The NFL slapped him with a $13,659 monetary penalty for a celebration earlier in the year.

Early in the first quarter, Hooker tackled Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, causing Waddle to leave the game for a while. Waddle made a fantastic catch over the center, while Hooker attempted to jar the ball loss. The third-level defender made contact with Waddle’s upper body while leading with his helmet. Still, the offensive skill player for the Dolphins clung onto the ball. Waddle was gone for a short while, but he came back later in the drive.

Amani Hooker: Five-Year NFL Career

The Tennessee Titans have been the home team of Hooker, a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, throughout his whole five-year NFL career. As a rookie, Hooker was limited to a rotating role; however, in 2020, he emerged as a fringe starter with 51 tackles, eight passes defended, and four interceptions. Kirk Cousins, the gunslinger for the Minnesota Vikings, was the target of his first NFL interception. In 2021, the Iowa Hawkeyes product made the transition to a full-time starter, recording 62 tackles and one interception. Hooker played in just nine games the previous season due to injuries.

With 12 games played, Hooker has racked up a career-high 77 tackles. In addition, he has one interception, one forced fumble, and seven passes defensed.
