Breaking: What the miraculous flipped 5-star QB means to the Huskers and what he has to offer to the team.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had their best day in years on Monday.

The program’s future depends on Nebraska being able to acquire Dylan Raiola, a former Georgia five-star quarterback prospect who is a 2024 recruit. There hasn’t been much to celebrate in Lincoln since 2016.

Since ESPN started keeping track of high school athletes, Raiola is the program’s highest-rated recruit.

After the squad struggled at quarterback in 2023, head coach Matt Rhule, who is in his second offseason with the Cornhuskers, needed to do better at the position.

In 12 games, quarterbacks Jeff Sims, a transfer from Georgia Tech, Heinrich Haarberg, and Chubba Purdy combined to go 136-of-261 (52.1%) for 1,631 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

Despite ranking 123rd in scoring (18 points per game), Nebraska boasted a top-20 scoring defense (18.2 points allowed per game).

Reminiscent of the Cornhuskers’ appeal, Raiola makes a Dr. Seussian announcement of his choice to leave Georgia for Nebraska.

“No longer a cog in some powerhouse machine, but a quarterback, with an even grander ambition unseen,” he wrote in a letter.

Had Raiola stayed with the Bulldogs, he most likely would have gone unnoticed given Georgia’s recent success. Carson Beck, the quarterback for Georgia, was outstanding this season and finished sixth in passing (3,738 yards), but he didn’t receive much credit because the team didn’t reach the heights they had the previous two seasons.

Stated differently, the Bulldogs’ stellar 12-1 record during Beck’s tenure was a letdown for the program. On the other side, if Raiola leads the football team to the same record, Nebraska might celebrate with a parade.

Since entering the Big Ten in 2011, the Cornhuskers have had difficulty; they have only had one season with ten wins, and they haven’t been in a bowl game since 2016.

There should be hope that Lincoln will finally change in light of Raiola’s decision.
