Could This Be The End For Him After The Devastating Loss Against The Rams In Week 15? Who is to be blamed for this?

In Week 15, the Commanders lost to the Rams in yet another heartbreaking fashion.

In Week 15, the Washington Commanders were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams once more. Although the final score of 28–20 gives the impression that the game was tight, such is not the case.

In the second quarter, the Rams stormed out to a 20-0 lead, and in the fourth, they extended their lead to 28-7. This is true even though the Rams lost the turnover fight 2-1 as a result of two blunders by standout running back Kyren Williams.

The Commanders scored two touchdowns in the latter part of the fourth quarter, but it was the only reason the final score was close. This game was in the Rams’ hands. They outscored the Commanders 445-297 and played with around 36 minutes remaining in the game clock. How did this come about? Who is at fault for the Commanders’ sad loss yet again? Specifically, two areas stand out.

Sam Howell

In his first NFL season as a starter, Sam Howell has performed admirably for the Commanders. Howell has the seventh-most passing yards in the NFL. According to playerprofiler, Howell is also ranked third in the NFL in air yards, second in money throws, and third in pressured completion %.

However, Howell also comes in first in interceptable passes, fourth in danger plays, and just 25th in yards per attempt. Howell has been picked off 15 times and has 25 passes that are judged interceptable. Yesterday, he was picked off once more.

Though he didn’t quite get lucky on that play, Howell did put the ball in danger. That play had more opportunities for things to go wrong than for them to go right, and that is what happened. When the game grew out of hand in the fourth quarter, Howell was benched for the remainder of the contest.

His final stats were a meager 11-26 for 102 yards, one interception, and a score. After entering the game, Jacoby Brissett immediately led two touchdown drives, one of which ended with Terry McLaurin receiving a dime.

Sam Howell has had a fine season. Growing pains were expected for a second-year player entering his first season as a starter. But he didn’t hold up his end of the bargain on Sunday, and it cost the Commanders dearly.

The Commanders’ Secondary

The depth of Washington’s secondary is far from zero. Their defense has talented players in the back end, led by safety Kam Curl. Emmanuel Forbes, a cornerback out of Mississippi State, was selected by Washington in the first round, but thus far, he has fallen short of expectations. However, not many other people in that secondary have either.

They entered this game against the Rams by allowing the highest EPA per dropback in the NFL. That number only grew after what the Rams did to them.

Matthew Stafford went 25-33 for 258 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. His two touchdowns could not have been any easier. No one was around Cooper Kupp when he broke free for a 62-yard touchdown early in the third quarter.

When Kupp scored the touchdown that ultimately ended the game in the fourth quarter, DeMarcus Robinson was open, too, even though there was no Commander around to stop him from getting the ball.

Defensively, the Commanders are getting chopped up in the air, and ironically, they keep losing. The Commanders have lost six of their last seven games by allowing at least 28 points to be scored, and they have only triumphed in one of those games. However, that was vs the unfortunate New England Patriots. In the offseason, their secondary has to be addressed because it is a serious issue.
