BREAKING NEWS: Giants add Excellent Five-star national champion before their pivotal Week 16 matchup with the Eagles.

Could it be that…Cade York is the Giants’ hidden weapon against the Eagles?

As the New York Giants get ready to play their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Philly on Christmas Day, the kicker carousel keeps turning. Despite being a collegiate player, their newest addition at least has a championship pedigree.

The Giants ended kicker Randy Bullock’s season on Thursday by placing him on injured reserve. Bullock will be replaced by Cade York, who has been a member of the team’s practice squad, The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov reports.

York played for the LSU Tigers, who were the 2020 College Football Playoff winners. As the club’s starting kicker, he was named to the SEC Freshman club and the second team of the All-SEC.

York’s sophomore year saw him named to the second team of the All-American team. York joined the 2022 NFL draft after making all 75 extra-point attempts and 33 of 39 field goal attempts.

York gets another shot

Things in the NFL haven’t gone as well as York’s college career did. Drafted in the fourth round by the Cleveland Browns, York went just 24-of-32 on field goal attempts in his rookie season.

Following a challenging preseason in 2023, York was waived by the Browns; he was subsequently signed to the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans in August. Shortly after, in early November, York was signed from the Titans to the Giants’ active roster, only to return to Big Blue’s practice squad, where he had been since Bullock’s signing.

York will become the fourth player in the league to attempt a field goal for New York once the season begins. The kicker position feels like a metaphor for the team’s problems keeping up momentum from the previous season to 2023.

Graham Gano was the team’s kicker last season, and he was a rock. Gano’s field goal percentage (minimum of thirty attempts) was better than that of only five players, and he made numerous clutch kicks throughout the Giants’ postseason run.

The kicker position has been a source of perpetual uncertainty for the Giants as they battle through a 2023 season that will most likely end after 17 games.

Just a coincidence? Maybe. However, there is only more cause for concern as the Giants get ready to play the 10-4 Eagles.
