O’HARA: What Week 18 Taught Us

The positions of head coach are being discussed for offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

But as long as the Detroit Lions are in the playoffs, they will always have their undying loyalty. The first-round game between the Lions and Rams takes place on Sunday at Ford Field.

“Both of them know this – it’s all about us right now.” said Campbell. “The team is the focus, and they have a great deal of investment in this group.

“They’ll get their chance. This week, they are powerless. That moment will arrive, so keep your attention on the here and now. Of course I want the best for them, but for now, it’s all about us. Both of those people are deserving—more than deserving—to be considered as potential head coaches. Wherever you are, I don’t care.

“They are two of the best that you’re going to find, I believe that.”

Return of Matthew Stafford: When he’s not on the football field, Matthew Stafford is as reserved as ever.

He was as informal as he had been for the majority of his twelve seasons with the Lions when he spoke to the media following the Rams’ victory over the 49ers on Sunday.

At Ford Field on Sunday night, the Lions and Rams will play in the first round of the playoffs.

“It’s exciting for this team just to get where we are right now, to be honest with you,” Stafford said. “So many people out there didn’t think we’d get to this point.

“The opportunity happens to be in Detroit, which is fun for me on a personal level. I know it’s going to be rocking there. They haven’t had a playoff game there in about 30 years or whatever it is. It’ll be a great atmosphere. It’ll be a tough task for us.

“A football game is a football game, once the ball is snapped. Once the ball is snapped it’s time to go play football. There will be excitement just because it’s a playoff game. Anytime you’re in the playoffs, it’s so much fun.”

A word for Fox: Campbell went through a list of players who played well Sunday.

When he got to Jack Fox he had one word for his booming kickoffs and five punts that averaged 53.6 yards per punt: “Wow.”
