The Carolina Panthers have requested to talk with Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan regarding taking over as head coach, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Callahan, who has spent the last five years in Cincinnati, took part in the team’s 2021 Super Bowl run.
The coach has 14 years of NFL experience, having worked in various positions with the Broncos, Lions, and Raiders before joining the Bengals in 2019. He served as an offensive assistant for Denver in 2015, the team that was led by quarterback Peyton Manning to victory in the Super Bowl.
Under Brian Callahan, the Bengals offense flourished in 2021 and 2022, winning the AFC North division in back-to-back years and earning appearances in the AFC Championship in both. Cincinnati set single-season franchise records for completions (414) and touchdowns (35), finished sixth in the NFL in terms of points per game, and enabled Joe Burrow to make his first trip to the Pro Bowl.
The Carolina Panthers finished the previous season with an NFL-worst 2-15 record. After a 1-10 start to the season, they fired first-year coach Frank Reich, and Chris Tabor served as interim head coach for the remainder of the year.
Now the search to find the next Panthers head coach is officially on, and Brian Callahan is one of the early candidates.
Panthers part ways with GM Scott Fitterer
A statement from the team stated that general manager Scott Fitterer and the Carolina Panthers have split up.
Following their Sunday loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Panthers concluded the season with a 2–15 record. Nothing went right this season, even after choosing quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall choice last year.
Tepper made a declaration on Monday am.
Owner of the Panthers David Tepper announced, “I have decided that Scott Fitterer will not be our general manager going forward as we move forward with the new direction for our franchise.” “I’m grateful for Scott’s efforts and send my best wishes to him and his family.”
