Micah Mazzccua, who started as Florida’s starting right guard for one season, will transfer to Nebraska.
Micah Mazzccua, an offensive lineman for Florida, committed to transfer to Nebraska on Wednesday.
Mazzccua, a rising fifth-year senior, will play for the Cornhuskers in his final season of college eligibility. He’s moving to Lincoln, Nebraska, to live with his brother, walk-on running back Maurice Mazzccua.
For his one and only season at Florida, Mazzccua started every game as the starting right guard. He only missed the team’s game against Charlotte in Week 4 when he was suspended for half the game by the SEC and UF for his involvement in a brawl that occurred after the game the week before against Tennessee.
According to Pro Football Focus, he played 730 offensive snaps in 2023, grading out as an above-average run blocker and giving up three sacks in pass protection.
Mazzccua is making a move soon, which is his most recent attempt to use the NCAA transfer portal. After three seasons at Baylor, where he committed as a unanimous three-star talent from the 2020 recruiting class, he used the service to join Florida in January 2023.
Prior to the start of his Gators playing career, he hinted at leaving Gainesville by claiming on social media at Florida’s spring training camp last March that he intended to re-enter the transfer portal for unspecified reasons. That did not transpire, though, as Mazzccua finally removed his post and took over as the starting offensive lineman for UF in the 2023 season.
After the season, Mazzccua finally made an official entry on the transfer site on December 30, 2023.
Along with center Kingsley Eguakun, whose 2023 campaign was hampered by a bothersome ankle issue, Mazzccua is one of three first-team blockers to leave Florida this summer. The other two, left guard Richie Leonard IV and Mazzccua, entered the NFL Draft.
Since the season ended, Jalen Farmer and Jordan Herman, the backup linemen, have both left.
In an attempt to strengthen the line, the Gators acquired tackles Devon Manuel from Arkansas and Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson from San Diego State this offseason as offensive line transfers.
Four high school talents from the class of 2024 were also signed by Florida: Marcus Mascoll, an interior lineman, Noel Portnjagin, a hybrid tackle/guard, and tackles Fletcher Westphal and Mike Williams.
