After a poor season, it seems the New York Giants still believe in head coach Brian Daboll.

Late on Thursday afternoon, Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz of the New York Post announced that the team “will not be investigating” head coach Bill Belichick. Earlier in the day, Belichick and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft had declared they had mutually chosen to part ways.

Belichick won his first two of his eight Super Bowl rings as an assistant and then as the defensive coordinator for the Giants from 1979 until the 1990 season, before going on to become a legend with the Patriots. While Daboll led the 2022 Giants to the playoffs and a road postseason, he also took home the Associated Press Coach of the Year Award.

The 2023 Giants ultimately finished with a record of 6-11 and Daboll’s public breakup with defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale after Week 18 seemed to hint that a lack of talent and roster depth weren’t all that ailed the team this season.

“The Giants and Belichick have a positive working relationship, and Belichick thinks highly of the Giants,” Schwartz said before stating that Big Blue is “not looking into other (coaching) options at this time.”
