According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Carmen Bricillo is being hired by the New York Giants to fill the role of offensive line coach, hence he will now be the former offensive line coach for the Las Vegas Raiders.
This action is expected given that Bricillo had an interview with the Giants yesterday and it was previously revealed that the Raiders were not preventing their position coaches from speaking with other clubs. However, he is the first assistant to accept a position with a different team.
The previous season, New York’s offensive line was particularly poor; with 85 sacks allowed, the team led the league, 20 more than the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers, who tied for second-last place. In contrast, Las Vegas tied for seventh place in terms of sack surrendered, and Pro Football Focus rated its offensive line as the 10th best in the NFL. Thus, it’s understandable why Bricillo piqued the Giants’ interest.
Additionally, despite never having lived in New England together, Giants head coach Brian Daboll and Bricillo are acquainted through their shared coaching background with Bill Belichick.
After Bricillo spent three years on the Patriots’ staff, Josh McDaniels lured him to the Raiders. Daboll had two stints with the Patriots, the most recent one as the tight ends coach from 2013 to 2016.
Therefore, the Silver and Black will need to recruit a new offensive line coach regardless of who they choose to replace Mike Shanley as head coach.
