Ever after winning the Super Bowl in 2016, the Denver Broncos have struggled to find a quarterback.
In 2024, Doug Whaley, the former general manager of the Buffalo Bills who served as head coach from 2013 to 2017, offered head coach Sean Payton one hypothesis.
Sean Payton doesn’t require a mobile quarterback, so consider this. That kind of attack, timing, exact accuracy, and occasionally a well-executed deep shot, all kind of blend with what he does. With the way Rudolph is playing right now, he will be a real stopgap, Whaley said.
Rudolph, an Oklahoma State graduate, was chosen by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his six-year NFL career, the seasoned quarterback has spent all of it with the Steelers.
According to Spotrac, Rudolph committed to staying in Pittsburgh in May 2023 by signing a $1.08 million one-year contract. When the Steelers season ends, he will become a free agent.
On January 15, Rudolph will start his first-ever playoff game against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.
