The Seattle Seahawks’ 2023 season did not proceed as expected. The anticipation was that the youthful, promising team will repeat their successful playoff run from the previous campaign. Upon the conclusion of the last season, the Seahawks stood at 9-8 and were not in contention for the postseason. Pete Carroll, the coach of the Seahawks, lost his job as a result of this. To his credit, general manager John Schneider accepted responsibility for the organization’s failure and did so with honesty during his news conference at the end of the season.

John Schneider Seems Just as Let Down as Seahawks Supporters

When Seahawks general manager John Schneider stood at the platform to give his 2023 season postmortem, there was no transferring the blame or offering any excuses. He remained unwavering in his belief that the squad must improve in 2024 and was brutally honest about its shortcomings this season.

“We all arrived here today due to our 2023 underperformance. All of us did. And now that we’re in this predicament, we all need to improve. Regarding the campaign, Schneider remarked, “And we understand that the 12s, the fans, the community, [owner] Jody [Allen], everybody in this building deserves better.” “We had great hopes for the year 2023. We, to be honest, underperformed in 2023 and overachieved in 2022. Everyone knows that, I believe, but once more, I believe it’s a time for all of us to look in a mirror, and this organization — myself included, obviously — can improve, learn, and move forward.”

Schneider gave a welcome response; he could have suggested or stated outright that Carroll was largely to blame for this season’s events.

The former head coach has had almost total control over his staff and even the final say when it comes to players for the past fifteen years. This is what made Shane Waldron, the offensive coordinator, and Clint Hurtt, the defensive coordinator, in control of their respective teams this season, which ended in failure.

Through player signings and the draft, Schneider does contribute significantly to the acquisition of talent, and he has proven to be a master at it over the years. There is no disputing that the Seahawks possess one of the best collections in the league, even in light of the team’s shortcomings this season of young talent in the league after the last two drafts.

Schneider Is Now Calling All the Shots

It doesn’t matter who bears the brunt of the blame for the Seahawks’ failure to make the playoffs, as Pete Carroll is no longer with them. For that mistake, the coach was fired, and John Schneider accepted responsibility for his fair share of the fallout.

But going future, the general manager in Seattle claims he is in charge of making decisions.

Essentially, the duties are the opposite. We used to have an arrangement whereby the coaching staff was outside of my jurisdiction, but that is no longer the case. Schneider made this exact statement at his press conference. “Jody Allen did not always choose this person over that person or make the decision. It all comes down to contracts.

This implies that the success or failure of the future Seahawks coach will be determined.

As a result, when the franchise moves forward, fans will know where the General Manager is headed. Will he reach back into the past with former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn? Will he carve out his own route alongside a young star like Ejiro Evero or Frank Smith? Or is he going to go all in with Jim Harbaugh or Mike Vrabel?

The response will eventually determine John Schneider’s legacy as the man in command.
