The sensational recruiting of five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams appears to be over. The gifted wide receiver has renewed his commitment to Alabama.
After Nick Saban’s retirement, there was some doubt about his first vow, but he has since returned to the boat.
Having said that, he ends something of a slide on the trail and becomes Kalen DeBoer’s first “big get” in Tuscaloosa. Prior to this, the Tide had to deal with a large-scale departure of transfers in addition to a decline in recruiting.
Williams was among those who reneged on his Bama vow on January 10.
Luckily for the Tide, he thought well of DeBoer’s hiring, and two weeks later, he was the star of the 2024 class once more.
It’s interesting to note that he smacked the Tigers twice with the committment decision just after the team’s basketball victory against Auburn.
Auburn is rejected by Ryan Williams
Williams not only committed to rival Alabama that evening, but he also called off a scheduled trip to Auburn.
The five-star prospect Hugh Freeze had one last chance to grab him when the wideout was anticipated to arrive at The Plains in early February.
It appears that he won’t get the opportunity.
Shortly after the news broke, Hayes Fawcett posted on social media, “Ryan Williams tells me he has cancelled his visit to Auburn and has officially shut down his recruitment.”
Alabama’s Point.
Kalen DeBoer’s authenticity pays dividends
The unenviable task of succeeding Nick Saban—possibly the best college football coach ever—was placed on DeBoer.
Boasting a solid resume but no SEC experience, he could’ve opted to overcompensate in an attempt to fast integrate into Alabama culture.
Rather, he stayed, shamelessly, true to himself.
Not a phony accent in sight! Brian Kelly is coughing.
Earlier this week, DeBoer discussed his new role on the Pat McAfee Show. It is hardly unexpected that he went out recruiting—just hours before he signed a five-star contract!
DeBoer was given the difficult assignment of taking over for Nick Saban, who is perhaps the greatest college football coach of all time.
With a strong resume but no SEC experience, he might have chosen to overachieve in an effort to fit in with Alabama culture more quickly.
Instead, he unashamedly remained loyal to who he was.
Not a single artificial accent! Coughing is coming from Brian Kelly.
DeBoer talked about his new position on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this week. Not surprisingly, he went out to recruit just hours before he inked a five-star deal!
