Unveiling the Jets’ Strategic Plan: Projected Acquisition of an ‘Elite Lineman’ to Shield Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers, Jets

This offseason, the New York Jets have a fantastic chance to address the “biggest void on the offence.”

The green and white will select Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu with the tenth overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. prediction.

This is New York’s chance to get their left tackle of the present and future, a year after they were outclassed by the Steelers in the first round and missed out on Broderick Jones. With Mekhi Becton approaching free agency, it represents the largest hole in the offensive line. Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback, would be happy to have Fashanu guard his blind side as he returns to the field.

Fashanu possesses all of the “physical gifts and footwork of an elite lineman,” Kiper continued. The 6’6″, 319-pound lineman made the decision to return at Penn State during the previous offseason rather than declare for the draft. “He could have been a first-rounder,” according to Kiper, had he declared for the 2023 NFL draft.

Kiper’s opinion is most intriguing when it states that Fashanu “still hasn’t come close to reaching his ceiling.”

On Friday, January 19, Daniel Jeremiah, a longtime NFL scout who is currently an NFL Network television commentator, unveiled his mock draft 1.0.

Fashanu was surpassed by the 13th overall choice in the first round according to his forecasts.

Teams are divided regarding Fashanu, according to Jeremiah. He regressed in 2023 following a stellar 2022 campaign. However, the talent is still quite great.

Jeremiah’s mock draft’s opening sentence, “I tend to base my mock drafts on what I’m hearing around the league,” indicates how he put it together.

This strengthens the validity of the former Penn State offensive lineman’s statement that “teams are split.” This may raise the possibility that the Jets will be able to select the gifted hog molly in the first round.

Musical Chairs Moving Around in Jets Coaching Room

After serving as the Jets’ defensive assistant for the previous two seasons, Ricky Manning Jr. is leaving for the West Coast. Previously on Twitter, George Takata announced on X that Manning “is the new Defensive Backs coach for the [Las Vegas] Raiders.” The agreement was finalised today, he said [Wednesday, January 24].

The Athletic’s Vic Tafur verified the story on social media.

Manning was crucial to the growth and coaching of the Jets secondary. For his first two seasons, Sauce Gardner received two nominations for the first team All-Pro. Michael Carter II and DJ Reed have also grown into important team starters.

In other coaching-related news, the Jets were not successful in acquiring Duce Staley. According to NFL Insider Josina Anderson, the veteran coach ‘advised’ Gang Green that he was switching to the Cleveland Browns.

The New York Post’s Brian Costello claims that the Jets were interested in hiring Staley. The green and white “planned” to extend a contract to him so he could become a member of the coaching staff, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

The search is still ongoing to find a replacement for Taylor Embree, who was not retained as RB coach.
