“Taking the Jets to New Heights”, Jets Sign Tony Dews as New Running Back Coach.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Jets have appointed Tony Dews, a former assistant coach with the Titans, as their new running backs coach.

According to a source, Tony Dews will be the Jets’ next running backs coach. During the previous six years with the Titans, he served as a tight end and running back coach.

Before switching to coaching tight ends last season, Dews coached running backs for five of his six seasons in Tennessee. Dews rejoins Keith Carter, the offensive line coach. Under head coach Mike Vrabel, the two were together for five years.

Dews takes over for Taylor Embree, who the Jets decided not to resign for a fourth season. During Dews’ five seasons as the running backs coach, Derrick Henry ran for 1,000 yards four times, and that easily could have been five as he gained 1,500 yards in just eight games in 2021. Three of those four seasons saw Henry rush for at least 1,500 yards, and in 2020, he became just the eighth running back in NFL history to gain 2,000 yards in a single season—going for 2,037 yards. Additionally, Henry has recorded six consecutive seasons with at least ten rushing touchdowns. These stats could be very positive for the prospects of Breece Hall this season, who totaled almost 1,600 yards in 2023.
