Breaking News: Brocos have been seen as the favorite team to land an Excellent Two-Time Pro Bowl Cornerback

Nick Sirianni

GettyThe Eagles and Nick Sirianni could look into a trade involving Broncos CB Patrick Surtain.

For a top player at his position, the Philadelphia Eagles might be the perfect destination.

The Eagles would acquire two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos in exchange for defensive end Josh Sweat, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 fifth-round draft pick, according to a “hypothetical” trade proposal put up by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.

Although Knox believes that a first-round draft selection would tempt the Broncos to part with their star cornerback, they have been optimistic about giving away their best franchise player.

According to Knox, “a first-round pick and a pass-rusher like Sweat might qualify.” “Suratain is worth it, even though it would be a lot for Philly to give up. Arguably the greatest young corner in the NFL, he would be a huge asset in Philadelphia alongside Darius Slay.

The Reasons Why the Broncos Are a Better Bet to Sign Patrick Surtain

According to Knox, the Broncos will be more receptive to a trade including Surtain since they are in need of a franchise quarterback because Russell Wilson looks to be on the way out after being benched before the end of the season.

Knox states, “Phoenix would absolutely make sense to reengage in the pursuit of Surtain.” It’s another question entirely whether the Broncos would entertain a trade after turning down bids just a few months prior. Denver’s impending decision about Russell Wilson and their possible search for a new quarterback, though, may encourage the Broncos to make a deal for draft money right away.

While Sweat has been a productive defensive end for Philadelphia — he posted 11 sacks during the Eagles’ 2022 season, one of four players on the team to post at least 10 sacks — the Broncos would probably want a defensive building block in exchange for their top player.

The Broncos could use an experienced edge rusher given that Sweat is a former Pro Bowler with 35 career sacks. This is especially true given that their leading sack producers in 2023 were outside linebackers Jonathan Cooper (8.5 sacks) and Nik Bonnito (8 sacks). Zach Allen, who has just 16.5 sacks in his five-year career, was their best defensive line sack artist this season with five sacks.

The Eagles, who are in a win-now mode, and the Broncos, who are seeking draft capital to choose their next franchise quarterback, would both profit from this kind of transaction.
