Huskers officially announce the addition of Florida as a transfer. Micah Mazzccua

Micah Mazzccua, who selected Florida in 2023, committed to Nebraska earlier this month. Mazzccua reopened the portal this offseason and is now on his way to Lincoln.

Mazzccua was formally announced by Nebraska on Tuesday.

Mazzccua transferred from Baylor this past season, and he played for the Gators for a season. In 11 of the 12 games played by the Gators last season, he started at right guard. In 2023, he played 743 snaps for the Gators in all.

The previous offseason, the Huskers had assisted Mazzccua in his recruitment; however, in the end, the lineman decided to move to Florida.

Mazzccua started for Baylor for two seasons before to his one and only season with the Gators. From the left guard position, he was considered a high-level run-blocker; in the 2022 season, he ranked eighth out of five Power 5 guards with a run-blocking score of 78.5. Pro Football Focus reports that he also racked up 14 huge blocks in that season, good for second place nationally among all guards.

Several offensive linemen with starting experience are returning for Nebraska, but Mazzccua is anticipated to step in swiftly to an interior line position and support an offensive lineman who made progress after a subpar 2022 year.

Mazzccua graduated from high school and was rated as the 108th best interior offensive lineman in Baltimore, Maryland’s St. Frances Academy’s 2020 recruiting class.

Maurice Mazzccua, the brother of Mazzccua, was a walk-on running back for the Huskers in the previous campaign.

The lineman is one of the Huskers’ transfer additions for the 2024 cycle, along with wide receiver Jahmal Banks, linebacker Stefon Thompson, running back Dante Dowdell, and defensive back Isaiah Neyor of Blye Hill.
