Good News:”A Heroe Returns”Chiefs Welcome Back RB Jerick McKinnon to…

The Kansas City Chiefs have granted veteran running back Jerick McKinnon a 21-day practice window, which should result in the playmaker making his way back to the practice field in Las Vegas. Since suffering a groyne injury on December 17th, during the team’s Week 15 victory against the New England Patriots, the Chiefs’ regular third-down rushing back has been out.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network broke the story on social media on Saturday afternoon. Rapoport said on “X” that “Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon has been designated to return off Injured Reserve—a possible addition for the Super Bowl.” “He has an open window for practice.”

Less than twenty-four hours before the Kansas City Raiders’ Week 16 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs, on Christmas Eve, McKinnon was placed on the injured reserve list. Subsequently, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has performed brilliantly as the team’s weekly third-down back.

McKinnon had 21 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown at the end of the 2023 regular season. He was mostly effective in the passing game, with 25 receptions for 192 yards and four touchdowns. Despite the bothersome injury, he participated in 12 games during the season. Though it’s encouraging that he’s returned to practice, it’s unclear if one of Patrick Mahomes’ top red zone targets will be available for Super Bowl LVIII.
