GREAT LOSS: Seattle Seahawks Have Lost A Five-Star Key Player To A Massive $102 Million Deal To The….

Future ramifications of Mike Macdonald’s appointment as the Seattle Seahawks’ next head coach could be extensive.
A lot will depend on Macdonald’s choice as offensive coordinator. Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith might not, however, play in the Pacific Northwest the following season.
Brady Henderson of ESPN reports that Smith’s future as a Seahawk does not guarantee anything.

The reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year had a poor season for the Seahawks in 2023. He completed 3,624 yards of passing with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That came after Smith completed 30 passes for touchdowns and threw 11 interceptions in the 2022 season.

Smith’s 2024 salary cap hit is $31.2 million. By moving the veteran after June 1st or designating him as a post-June 1st cut, Seattle may avoid paying $22.5 million in cap penalties.

But this is a really obvious question. Who could Seattle be able to add to the mix in Smith’s place? In NFL free agency, Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins are two options. It’s unclear, though, if either will be made available for purchase.

With Seattle being a rebuilding team, it might make more sense to choose the younger player. Justin Fields, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, and Mac Jones of the New England Patriots are two potential candidates in that regard.
