Sad News: Seattle Seahawks Set To Lose Another 5-Star Player Due To…

The selection of Mike Macdonald as the Seattle Seahawks’ next head coach may have far-reaching effects in the future.
Much of it will depend on Macdonald’s offensive coordinator selection. However, there’s no assurance that Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith will play in the Pacific Northwest the following year.
According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, there is no guarantee that Smith will play for the Seahawks in 2024.

For the Seahawks in 2023, the current NFL Comeback Player of the Year had a disappointing campaign. With 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions, he completed 3,624 yards of passing. That followed a 2022 season in which Smith completed 30 passes for touchdowns and tossed 11 interceptions.

Smith’s 2024 salary cap hit is $31.2 million. By moving the veteran after June 1st or designating him as a post-June 1st cut, Seattle may avoid paying $22.5 million in cap penalties.

However, this is a very apparent question. In place of Smith, who may Seattle be able to add to the mix?Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins are two possible choices in NFL free agency. However, it’s unclear if either will be released on the open market.

It might make more sense to go with the younger player given that Seattle is a team that is currently rebuilding. Two possible candidates in that regard are Mac Jones of the New England Patriots and quarterback Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears.
