All 25 of the quarterbacks in the Class of 2024 ranked by 247Sports made their formal commitments before Wednesday, so there will be no drama in the quarterback department on Signing Day. Eight of the top-10 quarterback signal callers were signed by SEC and Big Ten institutions this time around, including all three five-star prospects, Julian Sayin (who transferred to Ohio State as the best player available at his position), Dylan Raiola of Nebraska, and DJ Lagway of Florida.
Three of the five players at the top of the class at the position, Nico Iamaleava of Tennessee and Jackson Arnold of Oklahoma, started as true freshmen during bowl season, which is a change from the previous recruiting cycle. In 2024, both of those players are anticipated to be the starting quarterback for the Vols and Sooners, while Arch Manning supports Quinn Ewers at Texas and Dante Moore and Malachi Nelson, former signees from UCLA and USC, begin fresh careers after transferring to Boise State and Oregon.
It’s anticipated that several of the top 25 quarterbacks in this cycle of 2024 will be selected in the NFL Draft, at least in terms of scouting and evaluation.
The top quarterbacks and their signing locations are shown here.
25. Marietta, Georgia’s Jeremy Hecklinski
Accompanied by: Wake Forest
Cedrick Bailey, 24, Hollywood, Florida
endorsed by: NC State
23. Fayetteville, Arkansas’s Drake Lindsey
endorsed by: Minnesota
22. Jacksonville, Florida-based Colin Hurley
endorsed by: LSU
Issac Wilson (Draper, Utah), number 21
endorsed by: Utah
In the early signing period, NC State managed to stymie Miami and other contenders for Bailey, who had pledged to the Wolfpack since March 2023. Bailey, who is six feet six, has a 40-yard sprint time of 4.8, a short shuttle time of 4.4, and a vertical jump of 29 inches. After winning a state championship as a senior, Bailey established himself as one of the Sunshine State’s best players after winning 11 games as a sophomore and 12 more as a junior.
Twenty-nine, Marcos Davila of Midland, TX
endorsed by: Purdue
20. Marcos Davila (Midland, Texas)
19. Chandler, Arizona’s Demond Williams
Arizona was the signatory, but later moved to Washington
18. Greenwood, Indiana’s Tyler Cherry
signed using the state of Indiana
Williams, who participated in this year’s All-American Bowl, moved to Washington shortly after former Arizona coach Jedd Fisch was fired.
Williams expressed his excitement to 247Sports. “I think that having this opportunity in Seattle is fantastic for me. For me, there are a ton of options in the business world, and I truly felt like I was back home in Arizona. With the ties I had on staff, I kind of assumed I was going to like it, but I ended up really enjoying it up there.
17. Davis, Dermaricus (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)
Washington was the signatory.
16. Cypress, Texas’s Trey Owens
Texas was used as a signature
15. Jefferson, Alabama’s KJ Jackson
endorsed by: Arkansas
After Kalen DeBoer went to Alabama, Davis went onto the transfer site, but he quickly removed his name. Will Rogers, a former transfer from Mississippi State, is the front-runner to start for Washington this season, followed by Williams and Davis.
In an interview with 247Sports, Davis stated, “I want to stay and compete.” “I’m excited about my decision because I think I can thrive in this offense.”
14. Will Hammond, a Texas Hutto native
Acquired: Texas Tech
13. Jake Merklinger, a Georgia native.
endorsed by: Tennessee
Four-star Josh Heupel will be leading Tennessee’s fast-paced offense, and Merklinger told GoVols247 he’s excited to play in it.
“It makes me feel good,” Merklinger remarked. Since my offense and this one are somewhat comparable, I believe that will be helpful to me when I arrive here. I’m just eager to arrive here. Their offensive has always been entertaining to watch, dynamic, and I believe they are really talented.
12. Aldo, Texas’s Hauss Hejny
endorsed by: TCU
Elijah Brown hails from Santa Ana, Calif.
Accompanied by: Stanford
Hejny, who enrolled early at TCU, told 247Sports in December that he is eager to begin his studies under Sonny Dykes and is bringing a work ethic with him. Before moving to Fort Worth, he assisted Aledo in defeating Smithson Valley, 51-8, in the state title game, providing the perfect cap to an outstanding prep career in Texas.
Georgia was used to sign.
Prior to signing, Ryan Puglisi pledged to the Bulldogs for a period of 14 months. After five-star Dylan Raiola decommitted and signed with Nebraska, he is the sole quarterback for Georgia.
According to Dawgs247, Georgia coach Kirby Smart stated during the early period, “The physical traits are size, speed, and intelligence.” “For the character, the kid’s makeup, the intangible qualities, and the ball-throwing velocity. Some of our guys can really throw it. We’ve had men who struggle with throwing hard. The degree of their success has varied. Our shared characteristic has always been intelligence and the capacity to develop and expand plays. Thus, we examine each of those items.
“I’d wager that he and Ryan came down here five or six times each. Each time, he made sure the child was the right kind of contender by checking the appropriate box. He has accepted the learning component. He views himself as a man who must enter and grow within a framework. I believe he is aware of Carson’s accomplishment since he has witnessed it. He desires to develop and improve.”
endorsed by: Michigan
When reviewing Jadyn Davis on signing day, Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider noted that, depending on J.J. McCarthy’s selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, Davis might be able to contend for early snaps. And since the signal caller who won the national championship declared last month, Davis will compete with Alex Orji for first place.
“Michigan needed a quarterback in this class and got their guy in Jadyn Davis,” writes Marich. “He’s a demonstrated winner, leader, and player from his four years of high school football, as well as from numerous camps and 7v7 situations. He may not be the biggest, have the fastest forty time, or have the longest arm, but he knows how to manage an offense and run it very effectively, according to some critics. He is a true professional who just cares about winning and representing the University of Michigan both on and off the field.”
Signed with: Penn State
It took Ethan Grunkemeyer less than a month to accept a commitment following an offer from the Nittany Lions last spring. He signed with James Franklin and company in the early going and never wavered.
After deciding to attend Penn State, Grunkemeyer told 247Sports, via Lions247, “The culture they have is top notch.” “I think I’ll grow in the program and be a really excellent fit for it. It has always been my goal to play in the Big Ten, so I’m thrilled about the chance to do it.
endorsed by: Ohio State
After signing in December in the wake of Kyle McCord’s decision to leave the program, it seemed as though Air Noland would be among the early 2024 freshmen. However, that was prior to the Buckeyes adding multi-year Kansas State starter Will Howard and five-star 2024 transfer Julian Sayin, who had signed with Alabama prior to accessing the portal. Prior to his first season on school, Noland is already a part of the deepest quarterback room in college football.
6. CJ CARR (SALINE, MICH.
Signed with: Notre Dame
Former Officer of the Irish Order CJ Carr’s main recruiter prior to leaving for Alabama was Tommy Rees, but the four-star quarterback remained steadfast in his decision.
“I wanted to put that behind me and commit as soon as I realized I had discovered the perfect place for me. Before joining, Carr stated to Irish Illustrated in December that “Notre Dame is the spot.” “The first time I saw the campus, I fell in love. Since that initial meeting, the bond between coaches Rees and Freeman has grown. After taking three more, I made the decision to stick with the Irish.
Signed by: Nebraska
Dylan Raiola, the Huskers’ highest-rated recruit in the contemporary age of recruiting, was committed to Georgia since May but changed his mind, signing with Nebraska in December. Raiola might start as a true freshman given Nebraska’s need at the position.
Regarding Nebraska, Raiola stated, “I know they want to win right now,” via Husker247. “Coach Rhule wants to do things the right way just because he is the head coach.” He won’t take any short cuts. He intends to construct it from the ground up. He and I get along well, and I feel at ease discussing matters with him.
