A few months after CJ Simon committed to the Huskers, the Nebraska football team lost him as a commit.

Unfortunately, Nebraska football fans were not familiar with CJ Simon. The wide receiver from Oklahoma had committed back in December, so the Huskers weren’t exactly locked up with him. It seemed earlier this week that Simon thought his early Christmas present to Matt Rhule was a bit too fast.

If Simon decided right then that he wanted to commit to another school, that’s where he could become a fellow of infinite jest. And not only commit to a different university, but to one that was once among Nebraska’s football program’s oldest rivals.

The 3-star wide receiver is once again a free agent, and it seems that many recruiting analysts think Simon will play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the end. Although that specific switch could hurt a little, it would make sense for the player.

Given that Simon attended Moore High School in Oklahoma City, it’s plausible that he just made the decision to remain in his hometown.

According to On3, OSU is presently Simon’s most likely destination when he decides to make another pledge. It is estimated that the Cowboys have a 46% chance of acquiring the wide receiver. Of course, there’s still a forty percent chance that the Nebraska football team will be able to hire him.

CJ Simon commit: What does it mean for Nebraska?

That might have happened prior to the decommit. There’s also a chance they’ll stay in the image. Given that the receiver has just been committed for two months and that signing day is still ten months away, it’s possible that he committed too soon.

Nebraska football’s wide receiver target may be being taken by an old rival.

The Nebraka football team now has three commitments in its 2025 recruiting class after Simon’s decommitment. Caden VerMaas, an athlete, defensive tackle Tyson Terry, and running back Connor Booth.

Up until now, Simon was the lone commit in the 2025 class who wasn’t from Nebraska.
