In terms of recruits, South Carolina basketball has landed one of the best classes in the nation for 2024. The Gamecocks have signed three 5-star prospects this cycle and are ranked as high as #2 in the national team recruiting rankings, a ranking that would undoubtedly rise to #1 if top recruit Sarah Strong committed. Despite Strong’s uncertainty, the team has already recruited three 5-star prospects.
As she recovers from an injury, 5-star post player Adhel Tac has already enrolled early at the University of South Carolina.
Five-star prospective Born and raised in the Columbia region, Joyce Edwards attended Camden High School and is a McDonald’s All-American. This Saturday, she will compete for a state title in the South Carolina High School League.
Dynamic guard Maddy McDaniel, a 5-star prospect, has drawn comparisons to Dawn Staley, her future head coach. She is an All-American from McDonald’s, just like Edwards.
Regretfully, McDaniel hurt her knee during Bishop McNamara High School’s (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) playoff run. The talented guard underwent surgery last week to fix a torn meniscus in her knee. Currently, it is unknown how long she will need to recuperate because there are various kinds of meniscus repairs.
Since there are still eight months until the 2024–2025 season starts, it appears likely that the incoming freshmen will be prepared for the next campaign. In case she need additional time for rehabilitation and physical preparation, the Gamecocks have an abundance of guard depth returning for the upcoming season.
Tessa Johnson, Raven Johnson, and MiLaysia Fulwiley will all be back at guard positions for the upcoming campaign, and Te-Hina Paopao has one more year of eligibility remaining if she chooses to pursue it. Bree Hall, a wing player, will return as well in the fall. McDaniel can take all the time she needs to heal and prepare now that the backcourt is full of talent again.
