BREAKING: Commanders ‘Expected’ To Sign Key Cowboys Offensive Lineman
There was always going to be fallout for the Dallas Cowboys when defensive coordinator Dan Quinn left to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders.
Naturally, Dallas will play the NFC East rival twice a season, but the biggest negative seemed to be the brain drain Quinn brought with him. In naming Joe Whitt Jr. his defensive coordinator, he did just that.
After the legal tampering period began on Monday, Quinn’s Commanders made it clear they weren’t done drawing from Dallas.
On Monday, Adam Schefter claimed that Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz will sign with Washington. That comes only minutes after news that defensive end Dorance Armstrong was also defecting Dallas to sign with Quinn’s new team.
“According to sources, the #Commanders are anticipated to sign former Cowboys C Tyler Biadasz, so Dan Quinn is bringing in a familiar face,” he tweeted.
One familiar face is joining Dan Quinn’s team: sources indicate that former Cowboys C Tyler Biadasz will likely sign with the #Commanders.
His contract’s specifics have not yet been made public. However, Pro Football Focus predicted that he would get a $21 million, three-year contract.
It was soon apparent that Biadasz would be beyond Dallas’ means, which has been a recurring problem considering the team’s reluctance to make free agency purchases. Biadasz and left tackle Tyron Smith are the two linemen whom the Cowboys will now need to replace.
In 2023, Biadasz was ranked 13th among centers by Pro Football Focus, ahead of Nick Gates of Washington, who was also a free agent.
The Commanders, who are expected to select a rookie quarterback with the second overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, will find further logic in this move. Building an offense around quarterback Sam Howell took way too many sacks, thus a new starting quarterback is more than required. It’s likely that a seasoned player like Biadasz will take care of line of scrimmage protections to ease that adjustment.
Remarkably, Biadasz received the seventh fewest penalty calls out of all starting centers during the previous season with just three. Considering the Commanders’ league-high cap space, he may not be the biggest fish on the open market, but he’s a reliable, hard-working player who makes sense to invest in.
Former fourth-round pick Biadasz will probably be replaced by backup lineman T.J. Bass, a mid-to late-round rookie, or a less expensive free agent.
