Sydney Roosters ‘seriously looking’ at rugby union star
His father played for the Eastern Suburbs and Penrith Panthers.
The Sydney Roosters are apparently’seriously looking’ at recruiting another rugby union player, following their acquisition of Mark Nawaqanitawase.
Max Jorgensen is expected to be available for a trade to the Roosters at the end of 2024, being out of contract with both Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs.
Until his damaged fibula forced him out of the Wallabies 2023 Rugby World Cup roster, Jorgensen was a member of the team. His father, Peter Jorgensen, played 103 games for the Eastern Suburbs (1995–1996) and the Penrith Panthers (1997–01).
Moving to the club his father used to run wouldn’t be out of the question. He has, however, previously expressed his wish to stay at rugby union.
“Max Jorgensen, the rugby player, is a name that keeps coming up in the next 12 to 18 to 24 months. They’re really considering him,” 9news correspondent Danny Weidler stated on the network’s 100% Footy.
Weidler also refuted reports that the St George Illawarra Dragons’ Zach Lomax was a target for the Roosters.
After it was announced that the Red V would be losing Daniel Tupou, Joseph Suaalii, and Joseph Manu at the end of the season, Lomax was linked to joining the Bondi club. Lomax has been continuously linked to leaving the Red V.
Lomax is under contract for $800,000 per season through the end of 2026, but there have been rumors that he is unhappy about switching positions during the off-season.
Weidler continued to dispel rumors, saying that Joseph Suaalii would renege on his agreement with Rugby Australia and stay with the Roosters in the NRL.
“I checked this out with Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh two or three weeks ago, and he said, ‘no, we are definitely going to be honouring Joseph’s contract,'” the speaker continued.
“There had been talk that parts of that deal were not coming to fruition, that has been denied to me by Phil Waugh who said everything we have promised is there on the table.”
