Roosters forward learns fate after dangerous tackle
The tackle came early in the second half on Thursday evening.
The NRL’s match review committee has charged Sydney Roosters forward Nat Butcher for a thoughtless high tackle that occurred during the team’s Thursday night loss to the Penrith Panthers.
The Roosters forward was placed on report for a tackle that caused Matthew Eisenhuth of the Penrith Panthers to slip high during the second half.
The match review committee decided that Butcher should only receive a Grade 1 reckless high tackle charge, which entitles him to a fine.
Butcher will only have to pay $1000 if he enters an early guilty plea because it is the first offense on his rolling 12-month record. If he loses his challenge at the judiciary, which could take place on Tuesday night, he will have to pay $1500.
Luke Garner, a forward for Penrith, may also count himself fortunate that the match review committee did not charge him. He was fined for a crusher tackle in the 23rd minute of the game, which Penrith ultimately won 22 points to 16.
The Roosters appeared to score the next set after Garner’s tackle, but the try was controversially ruled out by the bunker due to an obstruction.
The lone offense to start Round 4 was Butcher’s fine; no other players were reported or charged from the game.
The forward for the Roosters has until Saturday at noon (AEDT) to decide whether to accept the early guilty plea or take the tackle to court.
