Sad News: “I want to go, I’m done here” Controversies Erupts As Auburn Key Man Demands An Exit From Team Through Transfer Portal.

Auburn, AL - 20231101 - Auburn Tigers Men's Basketball vs. Auburn Montgomery Warhawks

Auburn point guard Tre Donaldson, who just finished his sophomore season with the Tigers, plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced in an Instagram post Wednesday morning.

Donaldson’s decision to enter the transfer portal came after a sophomore campaign that saw him split starting point guard duties with true freshman point guard Aden Holloway. Donaldson started 10 of Auburn’s 35 games this past season.

Seeing a leap in production between his freshman and sophomore seasons, Donaldson finished the season having averaged 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Donaldson also finished the year with a 3-point shooting percentage of 41.2%.

With Holloway still on the roster and Auburn also having signed 5-star point guard prospect Tahaad Pettiford, Donaldson was about to find himself in a crowded point guard room.

A former two-sport standout out of Tallahassee, Fla., Donaldson committed to Auburn in August of 2021 as a 3-star athlete who intended to play both football and basketball for the Tigers, but later decided to focus on the latter.

Donaldson is the second Auburn player to hit the transfer portal after veteran guard KD Johnson announced his intentions to do the same on March 26.
