The majority of folks in and around the NFL are already aware that this month’s first overall pick in the draft will go to the Chicago Bears, who will choose a quarterback. Early in the summer, it was clear that the course was already being taken, and the Bears almost confirmed it when they dealt Pittsburgh Steelers starter Justin Fields.

The Bears are lucky to have another top-10 pick with which they may be able to select another elite player, even though it appears fairly likely that their man is USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Despite the fact that the organization acquired former Los Angeles Chargers star Keenan Allen for a fourth-round pick, many still anticipate the Bears to go after a wide receiver with  that No. 9 overall pick.

Three of the six experts over on our mock draft hub have the Bears landing Washington’s Rome Odunze, for example. But the Bears might have their eye on a wideout even higher on the board than Odunze, who is considered a consensus top-10 prospect.

Chicago is bringing in Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr. for a visit on Monday, according to The Athletic. (Also on visits to Chicago on Monday are Texas receiver Xavier Worthy and UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu.) Harrison is potentially in the mix as high as No. 3 overall, and it’s highly likely that the Bears would have to trade up to get him.

However, given that the Patriots, Cardinals, and Chargers are all regarded as possible trade-down destinations, it’s possible that the Bears are considering a move akin to what the Houston Texans made in the previous offseason when they took C.J. Stroud at No. 2 and then traded up to No. 3 to acquire Will Anderson.

Harrison Jr., Allen, and D.J. Moore would form one of the strongest receiver corps any top quarterback prospect has played with recently, and it would put Williams (or whoever they select at No. 1) in a much better position to succeed than Fields had during his time in Chicago. It might be quite expensive, but if the Bears can pull it off, it might be well worth it.
