In addition to confirming James Tedesco and Sam Walker’s absence from the team’s upcoming NSW Cup match, the Sydney Roosters have also released information regarding two further injuries.

Due to concussions, Tedesco and Walker were removed from Friday night’s shocking loss to the Connecticut Bulldogs during the first half.

Tedesco suffered his tenth concussion of his career, his seventh in the previous three seasons, while Walker’s injury represents the most recent setback for a half who saw a lot of action in 2023 but not much playing time.

Given the amount of concussions they have dealt with recently, the Roosters are known to be extremely cautious, but they have officially announced that Tedesco and Walker will only miss the NRL’s obligatory 11-day concussion stand down.

The Roosters are gearing up for their Round 6 match against the Newcastle Knights this Friday, hoping to restart their season without Tedesco, Walker, and Dominic Young—who was sent off for a tackle during the game against Canterbury—so it’s unclear if either player will have to miss more than one week.

A club statement stated that Salesi Foketi sustained a “significant MCL injury” and that NSW Cup hooker Tyler Moriarty suffered a fractured hand during the postponed game against the Canterbury Bulldogs. These injuries have furthered the Roosters’ depth problems.

The club have not set return timelines for either player at this stage, with both to visit surgeons in the coming days to assess treatment plans, which will then formulate return-to-play dates.
