One of the most recognizable faces on Auburn’s campus is coming back for one more year on The Plains.

Auburn center Dylan Cardwell, who was celebrated during senior night this past season, announced Thursday that he’d be returning to Auburn for his final year of eligibility.

Cardwell announced his decision in a post to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Cardwell’s announcement to return comes on the heels of a 2023-24 campaign that saw him average 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game while averaging 13.6 minutes of play per game as he rotated in with Johni Broome.

Last season was Cardwell’s most productive since the Augusta, Georgia native arrived to Auburn as a freshman in 2020.

“Dylan’s always trying to get better,” fifth-year senior Jaylin Williams said in January. “He’s not crying about minutes. When he’s out there, he’s going to play as hard as he possibly can. That’s Dylan Cardwell for y’all.”

Not knowing if Broome, Auburn’s starting center from this past season, will return for his senior season makes Thursday’s news notable.

During his press conference on March 28, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl didn’t take the possibility of Broome returning off the table. However, it’s still unclear if that’ll be the case and if the Tigers will be returning their leading scorer in Broome.

Now, if nothing else, Pearl and the Tigers know they’ve got one experienced center coming back.
