2024 NRL Transfer Centre: Roosters sign rising star, Lomax close to inking mega Eels deal, Storm hand out major extension

The Sydney Roosters have taken another step towards securing their long-term front row by locking in prop Terrell May on a two-year deal.

Off contract at the end of this year, May will remain at Bondi until at least the end of 2026. There had been suggestions last month May could move away from the Roosters, particularly if there were possibilities of playing alongside his brother Taylan.

But winger Taylan’s decision to stay at Penrith helped pave the way for Terrell to re-sign with the Tricolours. It was not long ago the shape of the Roosters pack appeared unclear, with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves set to head to England at year’s end. But in the past week they have extended Lindsay Collins‘ contract until the end of 2028, and have now secured May for a further two years.

“I’m really happy to have my future sorted with the Roosters,” May said. “I love being part of the team here and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to represent the red, white and blue for another two years.”

May has had the best year of his career this season, averaging 126 metres per game.

The Roosters also have suspended forward Spencer Leniu signed until the end of 2025, after luring him from Penrith for this season.

Meanwhile, St George Illawarra star Zac Lomax has all but been confirmed as a Parramatta player with the outside back set to ink a $2.6m deal to move to Western Sydney.

His management are locked in talks with the Eels but it is thought that a deal is not far away and will be announced in due course. The talk is of a deal until the end of the 2028 season, two years more than the 2026 that was guaranteed at the Dragons.

Currently, Lomax is set to join at the end of this season, as previously agreed with St George Illawarra, but there is an outside chance of an early shift if a trade could be agreed that was amenable to the Dragons.

Melbourne have extended versatile Nick Meaney‘s contract until the end of 2026.

Meaney has taken his game to new heights since arriving at the Storm from Canterbury in 2022. He appears to have made the right centre spot his own this campaign as the third-placed Storm have posted a 3-1 record across the opening five weeks.

Meaney was largely used as cover across his first two seasons with the Storm, notably filling in for injury-plagued fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen for the majority of last season and part of 2022.
