“Game-Changing Move”: Fans And Staff Go Wild With Excitement As Major Gamecock target Declares Desire To Play For The Gamecocks.

South Carolina basketball target Cam Scott recently decommitted from Texas, and the Lexington native said on Monday he wants to play closer to home.

Scott’s graphic mentioned “family matters” and even went as far as to say that the 6’5″ wing had a desire to “stay closer to my loved ones as I pursue the next steps of my basketball career.”

When Scott originally committed to Texas, he told several media outlets that South Carolina basketball was “definitely #2” in his recruitment. That, along with the clear desire to stay close to home has fans hopeful that the Columbia-area kid will don garnet and black at the next level.

To be fair, the Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ole Miss Rebels were all part of Scott’s top-6 list at the time of his Texas commitment, and all three of those programs are closer to his home than Austin Texas (the Oregon Ducks were also in that top-6, but Eugene, Oregon certainly is not closer to home).

If Scott committed to his hometown team, he would help fill a gap on the Gamecocks’ roster. Carolina needs two guards capable of starting after losing Meechie Johnson (transfer portal) and Ta’Lon Cooper (graduation) this offseason. While one player must be a point guard, the other only needs to be able to defend and score, which Scott can do under the appropriate circumstances.

Scott’s length and work level are qualities that a defensive-minded coach like Lamont Paris can develop into big-time productivity on that end of the court, and his scoring talent will translate nicely at the next level. To put it plainly, the South Carolina basketball program would benefit greatly from Cam Scott if he actually elects to stay home.
