Auburn DL Brenton Williams reportedly
Auburn defensive lineman Brenton Williams has entered the transfer portal according to reports from 247Sports and On3.
Williams was up in the Auburn region and went to Opelika High School. During his first year at Auburn, he stayed at home. This fall, he redshirted and participated in two games without contributing any stats.
With the opening of the spring transfer window on Tuesday, he is the first player from Auburn to use the portal.
Williams plays buck linebacker, an edge rushing position on the edge of the defensive line in new defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin’s scheme. But Auburn is largely set at the pass-rushing positions for this year with Jalen McLeod and Keldric Faulk as well as the future with freshmen like Amaris Williams and Jamonta Waller. Head coach Hugh Freeze has also made it clear Auburn plans to go after more defensive linemen during this post-spring practice portion of the transfer portal.
The Opelika native didn’t have much room to climb the depth chart as a result.
Williams was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, a first team all-state selection for Class 7A, and an AHSAA South Region All-Star in 2022.
