All-American Forward Announces Return To Auburn For Final Season
Johni Broome, a forward from Auburn, will play one more season with the Tigers. Bruce Pearl, the head coach, made a momentous announcement following his team’s third SEC Tournament victory in program history the previous year.
In 2023, Broome emerged as the second unanimous All-American choice in the history of the program. For the Tigers, he averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. In addition, Broome was selected to the All-SEC Defensive Team and first team All-SEC recognition.
Over two seasons, Broome started in 67 of his 68 career games with the Tigers. He averaged 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He was also a candidate for the Naismith and John R. Wooden National Player of the Year awards.
Broome started his career at Morehead State, where he was a two-time All-OVC selection for the Eagles. He was also named the 2020-21 OVC Freshman of the Year and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors during the 2021-22 season.
