UNC Basketball Lands Among Finalists for Massive Transfer Target
Having been listed among the best universities in the country, the UNC basketball coaches appear to be after one big man transfer.
With his remarkable five-year career coming to an end, Armando Bacot left Chapel Hill, leaving head coach Hubert Davis and his UNC basketball team with a significant void at center. Currently, it looks like rising junior Jalen Washington will handle most of that duty, but the Tar Heels might be on the verge of signing a huge transfer in place of Washington.
Big man Clifford Omoruyi, a transfer from Rutgers, is reportedly considering 12 universities, including UNC, according to a report published on Tuesday by On3’s Joe Tipton. The following schools were also included: Alabama, Baylor, Georgetown, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Oregon, St. Johns, UCLA, and Washington.
The 6-foot-11, 240-pound post player played his previous four seasons at Rutgers, where he started all 98 games over the last three years. This past season, Omoruyi averaged 10.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while also swatting nearly three shots per contest.
According to the 247Sports portal rankings, Omoruyi is presently ranked as the fifth transfer in all of college basketball and appears as the second center. Oumar Ballo, an Arizona transfer who is the only center ranked higher than him, has already committed to play for Indiana.
Hubert Davis and the UNC staff appear to be putting a lot of effort into pursuing an impact transfer who can play down low, and if Omoruyi chooses to come to Chapel Hill, he has the potential to be one of the Tar Heels’ most vital players.
However, it’s important to note that Jonas Aidoo, a transfer from Tennessee, is one of the big men with whom UNC basketball is still in communication.
