Breaking News: Cleveland Browns Make World Class Signing As They Officially Land Versatile Lineman With Tremendous Upside As UDFA Rookie.

Browns land versatile lineman with tremendous upside as UDFA rookie

This signing could pay off in the long run

Jalen Sundell

Immediately following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns went back to work. They began adding undrafted free agents minutes after the weekend-long event ended. They started off by bolstering the defense with additional weaponry, but soon they turned their attention to the depth of the offensive line.

They also added two well-known players who were anticipated to be selected: Miami’s Javion Cohen and North Dakota State’s Jalen Sundell. While some draft experts projected Sundell to go in Rounds 5 or 6, Sundell is one of the best undrafted signings thus far, while Cohen was thought to be a possible seventh-round pick.

Sundell is a versatile player who spent much of his career with the Bison playing center. In 2023, he moved to left tackle where he continued to shine as a pass protector. In 406 pass-blocking snaps, Sundell surrendered just nine total pressures and only one sack.

He played in just five games in 2022 but was just as impressive with no pressures in those appearances. The prior year, he surrendered a single sack and one additional quarterback hurry.

The primary concern with the 6-foot-5, 300-pound Sundell is the level of competition he faced while playing at NDSU. While it’s true teams want to see how the small-school prospects fare against elite players, Sundell did what you want to see in such a situation — he dominated everyone he faced.

Jalen Sundell has a huge opportunity with the Browns

He has a fantastic opportunity in front of him now that he is in Cleveland. A left tackle prospect who could succeed Jedrick Wills was anticipated to be selected by Cleveland. In the last year of his rookie deal, the former 10th overall pick hasn’t accomplished enough to earn an extension.

Since the Browns did not choose a tackle in the draft, Sundell may be given the chance to grow as a rookie and establish his eligibility for a 2025 competition. With his skill set, particularly in pass protection, it may sound unlikely, but he could be another UDFA gem who has a lengthy NFL career.
