Joni Ortio left HV71 after the team qualified to remain in the SHL. Now the club has found a familiar replacement. The Jönköping club is re-signing Hugo Alnefelt from the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL, according to several independent sources.

Alnefelt joined HV71 as a 17-year-old. He left the club after the promotion to the SHL in 2021 after two seasons in the club’s A team.

After that, it has been three seasons in North America for the goalkeeper. There has been a game for the Tampa Bay Lightning, but mostly games in the AHL.

But now the adventure in North America is over for this time. Alnefelt will form a goalkeeper pair with Frederik Dichow in HV71 during the next season.

The new acquisition will be presented when the season with Tampa’s farm team Syracuse has finished in the playoffs. Right now it is 2-2 in the series between Rochester and Syracuse and the fifth and decisive game will be played on Saturday.

HV71 has presented four new acquisitions for the coming season; defenders Olle Alsing, John Nyberg, Oscar Engsund and forward William Ignberg Nilsson.

Now Alnefelt is also ready.

The club is now looking for attacking reinforcements in the form of players who can fill in at the top of the squad.
