Arkansas women’s basketball gains commitment from Malta center

On Wednesday, Maltese center Danika Galea made her commitment to the women’s basketball team at Arkansas.

She became the fourth foreign recruit to commit to Coach Mike Neighbors and the Razorbacks in the last two signing classes with her pledge.

Galea, 6-2, averaged 28 points and 19 rebounds per game in five games to win MVP in the U18 European Championships in 2023. She contributed to the Southern European island nation of Malta’s gold medal in Division C.

She made 8 of 11 from the field and finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game. The 56-47 triumph over Albania became uMalta’s first championship since 2007.

Galea finished with a double-double in each of the competition’s games. She was chosen as the event’s finest center as well.

She became the team’s second spring pledge, following Finland forward Pinja Paananen, who committed to the Razorbacks on May 6. The 2024–25 Arkansas roster features sophomore forward Cristina Sanchez Cerqueira, 6–1, of Granada, Spain, and freshman guard Phoenix Stotijn, 5–9, of Haarlem, the Netherlands.

Two further transfers have been added by the Razorbacks since the 2023–24 season concluded. Vera Ojenuwa, a forward from Barton Community College, and Izzy Higginbottom, a guard from Arkansas State, have both committed to Arkansas.
