Martin Dubravka says he is past caring when it comes to talk surrounding his Newcastle United future.

There are major doubts surrounding the 35-year-old’s future with the Magpies looking to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. It’s been suggested United have already agreed personal terms with the England man ahead of launching a fresh bid.

But when asked about the Trafford links, the Slovakian told reporters from his homeland “doesn’t care what happens anymore”.

He told Sportnet: “It’s hard for me to comment on that, because I get information from the newspaper about who we are signing. If I’m honest, I don’t care what happens anymore. I defended my place and did my best for the club.

“If they decide to bring someone else, I won’t influence it anymore. This is going aside at the moment, I’m trying to concentrate on the national team now. I let the rest out of my head.”

Dubravka, as it stands, remains United’s back-up goalkeeper, despite playing the majority of last season after Nick Pope missed five months with a dislocated shoulder. But the arrival of Trafford, or anyone else for that matter, would likely see Dubravka fall further down the pecking order.

With the risk of becoming third choice and indeed entering the final 12 months of his contract, the former Sparta Prague shotstopper has been strongly touted with a move away.

Celtic are the latest club to be linked but Dubravka said: “I would not like to comment on that, because I am mentally set for the national team. However, I am aware of various noises.

“Teammates ask me about it, agents call me. Yes, there is some truth to that. There was something true about that last year as well. But you see, I stayed at Newcastle United.

“If there is no official offer on the table, I don’t deal with it. That’s how I took it even when I was still in Sparta. At the moment, everything is only in the noise stage.”

Dubravka has spent six-and-a-half-years at Newcastle, including a half-season loan spell at Manchester United in 2022-23.
